Mumbai: Spinners Harbhajan Singh and Murali Kartik make a comeback into the India team for the first two Test matches against Pakistan to be played at Delhi and Kolkata.
The 27-year-old Punjab offie Harbhajan was dropped from the Test and one-day teams after the ICC World Cup held in Caribbean Isles in Apr due to the indifferent form and missed the Test series win in England in August.
However he forced his way thro' to the Test squad with a string of fine performances in Twenty20 World Cup and in the ongoing ODIs against Pak.
Left-arm spinner Murli Kartik, who made a fine comeback in the recently concluded ODI series against Australia, was also handed a Test recall. Kartik was chosen as back up veterens Jumbo and Bhajji.
Delhi swashbuckler Virender Sehwag failed to make the cut. Dinesh Karthik, who partnered opener Wasim Jaffer with some success during the 1-0 Test series win in England, was chosen ahead of Delhi batsmen Viru and in-form Gambhir.
Wicketkeeper Mahendra Singh Dhoni was appointed vice captain, an indication the one-day and Twenty20 skipper will take over as Test captain in the future.
The players to miss out will be Gambhir, Ranadeb Bose, Ishant Sharma and Ramesh Powar.
The Squad: Anil Kumble (Capt), Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly, V V S Laxman, M S Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Wasim Jaffer, R P Singh, S Sreesanth, Murali Kartik and Dinesh Karthik.
