Vishal, Vishwanathan bolster Haryana

Jamshedpur: Half centuries by opener Vishal Sahni (58)and middle order batsman S Viswanathan (60) helped Haryana score a modest 228 for seven against Jharkhand in their plate group B Ranji trophy tie at the Keenan stadium here today.

Haryana skipper Amit Mishra chose to bat after winning the toss and openers Sahni and Mithun Beerala (20) gave a decent start of 33 runs before the home team pacer S S Rao struck first as Beerala was plumbed.

Sahni, however, continued to complete his half century which studded with five boundaires. He also stiched 56 runs in the fourth wicket stand with Viswanathan and also became the second victim of Rao.

Viswanathan was unfortunate to be run out after scoring a solid 60 which came with the help of seven hit to the fence.

Twenty-20 World Cup star Joginder Sharma could not play a big innings and became the victim of Shahwaz Nadeem scoring 29 runs.

Besides, Rao, who took two for 48, leggie Nadeem bagged two scalps conceding 44 runs, while Kuldeep Sharma and Raj Kumar got one wicket each.

At stumps Amit Mishra and Gaurav Vashisth were batting on ten and five respectively.
