Bangalore: Karnataka registered an emphatic innings and 126 run victory against Himachal Pradesh after dismissing the visitors for a paltry 147 in their second innings on the penultimate day of the Ranji Trophy Super League Group-A tie at the M Chinnaswamy stadium here on Saturday.

Karnataka gained six points, including one bonus point for the outright victory by an innings and increased their tally to seven points from two matches.

Captain and leg-spinner Anil Kumble (3 for 41), R Vinay Kumar (3 for 32) and Sunil Joshi (2 for 22) were the architects who caused the damage to the visitors. Himachal batsmen, who played a key role in helping their side clinch Plate Div title and gain entry into elite league, failed miserably to occupy the crease. Visitors conceded 16 wickets in just under three sessions on the penultimate day for 209 runs is enough to show their lack of application.

Top order batsmen Manish Gupta, skipper Sandeep Sharma and their batting ace Sangram Singh were to be blamed themselves for not translating the starts to big one. Only wicketkeeper-batsman Maninder Bisla had the stomach to fight. He remained undefeated on 43 in the first essay and made a sedate 32 in the second before conceding his wicket to Kumble.

Six time champions Karnataka forced Himachal Pradesh to follow-on after bundling them out for 179 in the first innings.

In the second innings, the visitors lost wickets in quick intervals as Vinay Kumar, Kumble and Joshi struck in regular intervals.

Himachal Pradesh were only one point to their credit having drawn their first match against Saurashtra.

Brief Scores: Karnataka Ist innings 452 for nine decl beat  Himachal Pradesh 179 all out (Maninder Bisla 43, Vinay Kumar 3 for 26, Anil Kumble 3 for 55, Sunil B Joshi 2 for 18) and 143 (Munish Gupta 28, Mukesh 32, Maninder Bisla 32; Vinay Kumar 3 for 32, Anill Kumble 3 for 41, Sunil B Joshi 2 for 22) by an innings and 126 runs.
