Hyderabad bags 3 points from drawn tie

Mohali: The four-day Elite Group B match between hosts Punjab and Hyderabad fizzled out into a tame draw in the Ranji Trophy Championship at the PCA Stadium here today.

Hyderabad obtained three points on the basis of their first innings lead of 23 runs. Punjab got one point.

Set to score 300 runs in 33 overs, Punjab could muster only 75 for 4 in 28 overs. Ravneet Ricky (7) and Karan Goel (29) put on 37 runs before the latter departed, caught by Habeeb off the bowling of Ashwin (3 for 33).

With one more addition to their total, Punjab lost Ricky who was bowled by Ashwin. Ashwin also dismissed Chandan Madan (7). P Ojha had Ravi Inder leg before wicket.

Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 85 for 2, Hyderbad's second innings terminted at 276 in 85.2 overs and 365 minutes. Overnight not out opener Ravi Teja on 61, went on to complete his century (111, 13x4s, 236 minutes, 168 balls).

Amol Shinde (48, 7x4s) and Indian test player V V S Laxman who came at number nine made 26 runs. Punjab's Saranjit Ladoo was the most successful bowler as he claimed four wickets for 30 runs.

Manpreet and Birinder Singh captured two wickets each for 50 and 55 runs, respectively.
