Tillekeratne Dilshan gets a chance to force his way back into Sri Lanka's Test side when he leads the hosts in England's warm-up matches starting here on Tuesday.
Dilshan, 31, a pugnacious middle-order batsman who has scored 2,152 runs in 42 Tests, was dropped for Sri Lanka's ongoing tour of Australia due to poor form.
He made 111 and 78 while leading Sri Lanka 'A' on the recent tour of Zimbabwe and returned home to smash 188 off 135 balls for Bloomfield in a domestic one-day match last weekend.
Good scores in the two three-day practice matches against England could propel Dilshan back into the Test squad for the series against Michael Vaughan's men starting on December 1.
Dilshan will captain the Sri Lanka Cricket President's XI in both practice matches to be played in Colombo, the first from November 20-22 and the second from Nov 25-27.
The home team includes the best of Sri Lanka's second-string, with most of those picked having played Test or one-day cricket, and will provide the tourists with ideal preparations.
"I am delighted to be named captain in these games as it gives me a good opportunity to get back into the Test side," said Dilshan.
"I have been playing the domestic limited-over games and have got off to a good start. I am determined to continue that in the first three-day game.
"England are a very good side and will be very tough opponents. But our team comprises some experienced players who are on the fringe and this is a good opportunity to display their talent and ability."
The first of three back-to-back Tests starts in the hill resort of Kandy on December 1. The remaining Tests will be played in Colombo from Dec 9-13 and Galle from Dec 18-22.
