Bangalore: India left-arm seamer Zaheer Khan and skipper Kumble struck early to leave the Pak 74/3 at lunch on day one of their first Test at the Kotla Stadium , delhi on Thursday.
Zaheer castled Salman Butt (1) with a peach of an inswinger in the fifth over of the morning and had Younus Khan (7) five overs later, who played a unnecessary hoick shot straight to Munaf stationed at fine-leg, before new skipper Kumble bowled Yasir Hameed with a wrong one for 29.
Reliable Mohammad Yousuf (27*) and Misbah (3*) were at the crease at lunch.
Indian opening attack Zaheer and Munaf Patel exploited the early juice on Kotla pitch of low bounce after Pak skipper Malik won the toss and chose to bat.
Munaf, who bowled to an immaculate line and length and made the ball nip in to trouble batsmen, was unlucky not to get wickets. During his first spell of ten overs he had around half a dozen shouts for LBW.
Yousuf edged Khan past the slip cordon for four to get off the mark but then looked untroubled, the 32-year-old hitting five fours to remain as tourists's main hope of putting up a decent total.
Brief Score (at lunch, D-1):
Pakistan 74/3 (Yousuf 27 n o, Hameed 29; Zaheer 2 for 25, Kumble 1 for 13) Vs India.
