India ODI star Robin Uthappa (30, 26 balls, 6x4) shone briefly with the bat before Shinde (35, 72 balls, 3x4) and C Raghu (66 not out, 195 balls,10x4) played a dogged innings to ensure the honours were even and Tamil Nadu did not get an outright win which the hosts needed to boost their points tally.
Tamil Nadu could gain just three points for first innings lead while Karnataka got one to increase their tally to eight from three matches. TN have four from an equal number.
Earlier, the home team, resuming their second innings at 186 for six, added 51 runs before declaring their second essay at 237 for nine.
R Srinivasan remained unbeaten on 50 (106 balls, 8x4). Tamil Nadu had a first innings lead of 200 runs and chose to bat again, instead of enforcing the follow-on.
