London: Lancashire have signed South African batsman Francois du Plessis on a six-month contract starting next April.
The 23-year-old plays for Nashua Titans in South African domestic cricket and has a first-class average of 40.52.
Du Plessis will not count as an overseas player as he signs under the controversial Kolpak ruling.
"It's always been my ambition to play county cricket and to get that chance with a club the size of Lancashire is a great honour," said Du Plessis.
The Kolpak ruling, which dates back to 2003, states that "any citizen of a country with an associate agreement" with the European Union has the same rights as a European worker.
