Baroda thrash Uttar Pradesh by 48 runs

Lucknow: The visiting Baroda team today thrashed host Uttar Pradesh's team by 48 runs on the final day of the Super league group 'B' Ranji Trophy match in the state capital.

Chasing a victory target of 274 runs, the host, who was sitting pretty till last evening with 58 runs without any loss, failed to click the situation well bundled out at 225 runs-50 minutes after lunch, at the Akhilesh Das stadium.

With this win, Baroda collected five points, accumulating their overall tally to 14 after three matches, while UP remained on 8 points playing four. UP will meet Bengal in thier next encounter from December 17 at Kolkata.

UP resumed the innings at 58 without loss with not out batsmen Rohit and Tanmay.

Skipper Mohd Kaif started confidently but lost his cool hitting hard to Rajesh Pawar's delivery towards square leg where Rakesh Solanki held him, at that time he consumed 94 deliveries for his 37 runs, which included 3 bounderies.

Half centurian of the first innings- Suresh Raina (20) also failed to live upto the expectations of the team.

At lunch time UP scored 168/8.

After lunch break, a late burst bytailender Praveen Gupta (50) entertained the crowd with his hard hitting display studded with six boundaries and one six over long on, he along with last man Sudeep Tyagi added 40 valuable runs for the last wicket.

Yusuf Pathan, who claimed five wickets in the first innings added four in the second innings making his match tally to nine wickets. His younger sibling Irfan chipped in with 2 wickets.

Uttar Pradesh innings ended at 225 after 81.1 overs in 360 minutes play.
