Amritsar: Punjab piled up 496 for eight in their first innings on the second day of their Ranji Trophy Super League Group-B tie against Baroda at the Gandhi Grounds here on Monday.
The highlight of the day's play was Ravi Inder's maiden ton in the Ranji championship. Overnight not out on 84, Ravi Inder scored a flawless 142 with the help of 22 hits to the fence. He became the second centurion for Punjab after opener Karan Goel had scored 121 runs yesterday.
Resuming on overnight 214/1, the hosts lost Goel for the addition of just 13 runs to the team total. Goel could add just six runs to his individual overnight score of 121 before being trapped by Sunit Singh.
Skipper Pankaj Dharmani (13) came and went in whimper as he fell leg before to Chauhan. However Ravi Inder found a useful partner in Uday Kaul (29) and the two added 60 runs for the fourth wicket, before the former fell to Sunit Singh at 317 and 21 runs later Kaul too departed.
Sunny Sohal and Ankur Kakkar were associated in a valuable 53 runs stand for the sixth wicket. Jobanputra puts Saurashtra in box seat: Saurashtra left-arm medium pacer Sandeep Jobanputra's lethel first spell spelt doom on Karnataka despite opener Pawan's (110*) magnificiant solo effort in their Ranji Trophy Super League Group-A match at Gangothri Glades in Mysore on Monday.
Karnataka were struggling at 216/9 in reply to Saurashtra's 245. Hosts still need 30 more runs to take first innings lead for the crucial three points with Pawan and last batsman Appanna at crease
Jobanputra, who returned with figures of 6 for 69 in his 26 overs, exploited the conditions on a seamer-friendly strip to good measure to ripp thro' the hosts' top-order. He bowled consistantly on the out-side the off-stump corridor prompting the batsmen to commit mistake. Only Pawan, who is hardly in his first season, applied himself remarkably well to dish out his second ton of the season. His 269-ball knock was studded with nine hits to fence and one over it. He added 73 runs with skipper Yere Goud (33) for the sixth wicket stand.
