Dubai: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has issued a correction in its Test Championship table saying India did move up in the rankings but not to the second as stated earlier and is now at the third spot.
Earlier, ICC had issued a release which stated that India has moved up to the second spot with Sri Lanka closely following it at the third spot in the rankings.
The corrected list has Sri Lanka at the second position whereas, India is at the third position. South Africa still occupies the fourth spot due to their loss against the lowly ranked West Indies at Port Elizabeth.
An ICC realease now states ''After the completion of the South Africa v West Indies series, India moves from fourth spot to third, Sri Lanka rises from third to second.'' However, India still have a chance move up the ladder to the second spot if they manage to draw the ongoing Test series against Australia 2-2, lose it 2-1, 3-1 or 2-0.
A 4-0 loss will drag India down to the fifth position while a 3-0 loss will allow it to retain the third position.
ICC Test Rankings (corrected): 1. Australia (143 pts), 2. Sri Lanka (109), 3. India (109), 4. South Africa (108), 5. England (107), 6. Pakistan (94), 7. New Zealand (91), 8. West Indies (73) and 9. Bangladesh (4).
