U-19 WC: Pak may upset India~~s Cup campaign

Bangalore: Pakistan may pose threat to India's U-19 World Cup campaign beginning in Kuala Lumpur from Feb 17, skipper Virat Kohli said today.

Speaking to newspersons at the end of the seven-day conditioning camp at National Cricket Academy here, he said, ''We have successfully played against South Africa, New Zeland and England, but Pakistan was the team that needs to be watched. It is an unknown quantity and we gather that they are fielding a new team. However, we are prepared to put up brave fight and are confident of regaining the World Cup.''

Champions in the year 2000 under Mohammad Kaif, India had lost twice to Pak in the summit clash in the subsequent events.

Kohli, who plays for Delhi in Ranji Trophy, said pacemen and batters hold key for India's chances on a seamer-friendly wickets in KL.

A battery of seamers had been included in the team this time. ''Last time we lacked a proper seam attack but this time we have sufficient pace bowlers. Batting remains our strength.''

About India placed in Group-B with West Indies, South Africa and Papua New Guinea (PNG), Kohil said, ''It is tough group, we hope to live upto the mark as we are favourite to World Cup.''

Top two teams in each group enter the super league.

Replying to a question, he said the team was quiet used to play in different conditions so it may not be prove difficult to play in KL.

Newly appointed Coach Dev Whatmore said the boys response was very good during the camp and they were geared up for the event.

About the team composition, he said ''it is a well balanced team and in good form.'' To a question, he said ''India has great potential. There are a lot of matches coming through and boys are taking advantage of the opportunities.''
