Colombo: Sri Lanka's veteran left-hander Sanath Jayasuriya will be retained for the one-day squad despite being dropped from Test matches against the West Indies, chief selector Asantha de Mel said.
He said Jayasuriya was not included in the team announced on Tuesday, but will be under consideration for the one day leg of the West Indies tour.
"He will be under consideration for selection for the West Indies tour one day series. He will be in the team unless his form suffered a serious loss," de Mel said Wednesday, adding the one day squad will be picked later this month.
Sri Lanka plays two Test matches in the West Indies between March 22 and April 7 while the three-match one day series is slated to start on April 10.
Jayasuriya, who has retired from Test cricket, still plays in one-day matches. He was once left out of the national squad, but managed to win himself a berth after lobbying.
