The Hyd squad consists of some of the lusty hitters in the game like Symonds ($1.35m); Gilchrist ($700,000); Herschelle Gibbs ($575,000); Shahid Afridi ($675,000), mouthwatering, isn't it.
VVS made it all possible, says the CEO of the Hyd franchise P K Rao.
The magnanimous Laxman, who is tipped to captain Hyd side, turned down the iconic status offer from his franchise. And this act allowed 'em a bigger purse for shopping spree in players' auction held in Mumbai.
Iyer said: “He gave up the icon status in the interest of the team. “He said, 'I will keep the team ahead". He said he wanted the team to have a larger budget and he said he didn"t mind not being an icon as long as he led Hyd."
Had Laxman become the icon player for Hyd, he would have got 15 per cent more salary than the highest paid cricketer in the side.
VVS will get $375,000 much lesser then Symmo, Gibbs and Afridi. Hyderabad also netted India international Rohit Sharma ($750,000), Kiwi all-rounder Scott Styris ($175,000) besides Lankan batsman Chamara Silva ($100,000).
The Hyderabad team will have to rope in local cricketers from its catchment area - HCA, Andhra and Orissa.
