Vizag: Defending champions West Zone registered their second successive win thumping North Zone by 120 runs in the Deodhar Trophy tie here at the ACA/VDCA Stadium on Thursday.

North, chasing a target of 242 folded up for 121 in 35.2 overs, collapsed against the disciplined West attack led by new-ball bowlers (2/16), Ajit Agarkar (2/31). Seamer Abhishek Nayar (2/18) and left armer Iqbal Abdullah (2/17) too joined the party.

Skipper Sehwag (18) fell batting low down in the order at no 5 fell cheaply to Trivedi. Only Rajat Bhatia (35 off 58 balls, 4X4s) and the World Cup winning India Under-19 captain Virat Kohli (22) put up some fight in a losing cause.

Earlier, West Zone, opting to bat first made 241 runs off 48.5 overs, thanks to India internationals Wasim Jaffer, who made a workmanlike 92-ball 64. However it was Rohit Sharma's 78 off 97 knock, studded with nine hits to fence and two over it, that resurrected West after early setbacks and reach a comfortable 241 in 49 overs.

West recovered after both the openers Yusuf Pathan (5) and Ajinkya Rane (9) fell cheaply. Virendra Sehwag picked up four wickets for 17 runs off 2.5 overs while medium pacer Manpreet Gony bagged an equal number conceding 35 runs during his quota of ten overs.
