Deodhar: Uthappa, Ojha shine in South Zone win

Vizag: South Zone defeated North Zone by 42 runs in the Deodhar trophy limited-overs tie here at the ACA/VDCA Stadium on Sunday.

South Zone, sent in to bat, made 247 runs in 50 overs. Opener Robin Uthappa top-scored with an untypical 85-ball 57 inclusive six fours. Karthik, Vidyut and Arjun Yadav chipped in with 40, 37 and 31 respectively. Seamer Manpreet Gony was the pick of North bowlers with 4 for 52 while left-arm seamer Pradeep Sangwan took 2 for 48.

In reply, North Zone could score only 205 in 50 overs, losing nine wickets in the process. But for the Rajat Bhatia rest of the North batsmen meekly surrendered to the wily Ojha and Gyaneswar Rao. Bhatia made an unbeaten 62, with three fours and three sixes.

South Zone gained four points.
