Chennai: South African skipper Grame Smith won the toss and elected to bat in the first Test against India here on Wednesday.

The Indians have left out Irfan Pathan and Piyush Chawla from the final squad. Yuvraj Singh has been named 12th man in the side. India brought in opener Wasim Jaffer in the team as the hosts decided to go with four bowlers.

South Africa went with only one spinner in the form of Paul Harris in the ranks along with three pacers.
