Hyderabad: Lahore Badshahs maintained a clean slate in the Edelweiss ICL 20s league stage registering a narrow 11-run win in their last league tie over the lowly Ahmedabad Rockets at the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium here on Sunday.

Badshahs made 151/9 in 20 overs and restricted Rockets to 140/6.

Badshahs, who are already booked their semis' berth, opting to bat first got off to a poor start having lost Farhat in the very first over of the innings. Streak trapped Farhat plumb infront with a peach of an in-swinger.

Rockets new-ball bowlers Streak and Rakesh Patel troubled the Lahor batsmen early on with some good pace coupled with swing.
However Nazir broke the shackles belting Streak for two consecutive fours in the fifth over.

At the end of the 5th over the Badshahs were placed at 41/1 with Imran Nazir looking in ominous touch.

Taufeeq Umar&Nazir shared a brisk 60-run stand for the second wicket. Sumit Kalia pegged Badshahs back with two quick wickets. Kalia first dismissed Umar caught Gillespie at fine-leg fence and then drew Humayun Farhat out of the crease with a flighted one only to beat batsman all ends up and Pallav Vora took off the bails in a flash to leave the Lahore unit in a spot of bother at 62/4.

Kalia continued his good work and accounted for the prized scalps of Imran Nazir and Inzamam. Badshahs were relieved to see the left-arm spinner finish his spell that read 4/20 in four overs.

The onslaught in the end overs from Raza (44 off 32, 4X4s&2X6s) and Rana Naved (16* off 4, 1X4&2X6s) saw the Badshahs, who were precariously placed at 95/5 at the end of 15th over, reach a comfortable 151/9.

In reply, the Rockets started off on a poor note losing Hinds early on in their innings. The incredible Azhar Mahmood, who has got an uncanny knack of breaking opening partnerships, got into the act in the 3rd over sending the explosive Hinds back for only 10.

At the end of the 5th over, the Rockets were placed at 33/1 with their captain Martyn, taking the battle to the Badshahs. Sami came in the sixth over and sent back Martyn&Goodwin to put the Rockets in some serious trouble at 34/3.

Half way thro' their innings, the Rockets were placed at 63/4 needing another 89 off the last 10 overs at about 9 runs per over.

Former Tamil Nadu skipper Sriram dug in to keep the Rockets in contention with support from Anshu Jain on the other end. However it was shame that Sriram, who played sensibly picking singles and twos interspersed with odd boundary hits, got out when things looked shaping in Rockets favour.

In the last 4 overs, the Rockets needed 40 to win at 10 runs per over with 5 wickets in hand. Streak&Anshu were putting up a valiant fight against the might of the Badshahs taking the match right down to the last 2 overs. In the end some brilliant bowling under pressure from Rana Naved&Azhar Mahmood helped the Badshahs scrape past Rockets by 11runs.

Rana Naved-ul-Hasan was declared Man of the Match for his little cameo knock and four miserly overs.

Brief scores:

Lahore Badshahs 151/9 in 20 overs (Hasan Raza 44, Taufeeq Umar 29; Kalia 4 for 20) beat Ahmedabad Rockets 140/6 in 20 (Anshu Jain 43, S Sriram 24, Mohd Sami 2 for 25).
