Pakistan captain Shoaib Malik won the toss and elected to bat in the first day-night international against Bangladesh at the Gaddafi Stadium here on Tuesday.

Pakistan, without banned speedster Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Asif, included fit-again fast bowler Umar Gul to back up medium pacers Rao Iftikhar and Sohail Tanveer.

Akhtar was last week banned for five years for a series of disciplinary breaches, while Asif is recovering from an elbow injury sustained last year.

The five-match series was arranged after Australia postponed their tour of Pakistan over security fears.

Bangladesh, who beat Ireland 3-0 last month, left out fast bowlers Syed Rasel and Shahadat Hossain from their line-up.
