Lahore: Pakistan batsman Younis Khan has been given the all-clear to play for Western Australia in the next Sheffield Shield season, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Nasim Ashraf said Thursday.

"Younis has been allowed to play for Western Australia in the coming season as we think it will give him a chance to play in a high-level competition and it will further improve his batting," Ashraf told reporters.

The 30-year-old will become the fourth Pakistani to feature in the competition after Majid Khan, Imran Khan and Sadiq Mohammad.

"Younis is a great player and that is why he was approached and we have no objection to him playing for an Australian side when our national team is not playing," said Ashraf.

Former Pakistan captain Imran Khan has previously rated Australian first-class cricket as among the most competitive in the world.

The star batsman has played 58 Tests and 167 one-day internationals for Pakistan since making his debut in 2000.
