Lahore: After a series of poor performances in the Indian Premier League (IPL), all-rounder Shahid Afridi admitted that he failed to make an impact in the Twenty20 tournament even though the format suited his style of batting.

''This version of cricket suits my aggressive style of batting.

But I took pressure in the league. I wanted to give my best in this shorter version but unfortunately I failed,'' Afridi was quoted as saying by Daily Times after he ruturned home from India.

Afridi could manage only 81 runs in nine matches that he played for Deccan Chargers who finished at the bottom of the IPL table.

The 28-year-old lamented that his non-performance with the bat was one of the reasons for his team's poor run in the tournament.

''I am extremely disappointed, I failed to contribute for the team with the bat. My team finished at bottom because of my ordinary form. It really hurts me,'' he said.

He further added that he had been concentrating more on his bowling was a reason for his poor batting performances but said he was satisfied with his stint with the bowl in the IPL.

''I gave satisfactory performance in the bowling department in India,'' he noted.

Afridi, who has been playing international cricket for last 12 years, said it was disappointing that except Sohail Tanvir no other Pakistani cricketer was able to make a mark in the in the mega event.

He said it was a learning experience under stand in skipper Adam Gilchrist's and talked highly of his skipper VVS Laxman.

''Laxman led the team well in the first six matches. But it was a lesson to learn how Gilchrist treated the players after our two losses under him.

''He (Gilchrist) must be feeling bad, but he does not show it.

He tries to absorb it and speaks nicely to teammates. It was amazing,'' he said.

Afridi also pointed out that the Indian youngsters have had a good exposure in the IPL and said Team India would be a tough opponent in the tri-nation series to be played in the first week of June in Bangladesh.
