TN outplay Jharkhand in U-17 Federation Cup

Chandigarh: An unbeaten half century by Karthikeyan (51, 6x4s, 1x6) and his 76-run partnership for the second wicket with S Niketlulla (37) helped Tamil Nadu rout Jharkhand by eight wickets in the inaugural All-India Under-17 National Federation Cup Cricket Tournament being organised by the Cricket Federation of India at the Tau Devi Lal Sports Complex in Panchkula today.

Jharkhand won the toss and elected to bat. They were dismissed for 148 in 23 overs. Neeraj Gaurva top scored with 46 points. He was associated in a 65-run partnership for the third wicket with Parveen Kumar (25). M Manikandan got three wickets for 16 runs. Bhavic and Kartihkeyan got two wickets each for 28 and 26 runs, respectively.

Tamil Nadu achieved their target by scoring 150 for 2 in 20.1 overs. Karthikeyan (51 not out) and S Niketlulla (37) helped their team to victory.

Meanwhile, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan registered their second successive victories in their respective groups.

Punjab defeated Andhra by 145 runs. Batting first, Punjab piled up 242 for 6 in stipulated 25 overs. Openers Pardeep Gill (21) and Charanamrit (63, 12x4s) gave Punjab a sound start with an opening wicket stand of 93 runs, before Pardeep Gill was bowled by Raghav (4 four 43). Pardeep Gill Jr (58) and Harpreet Singh (50) were their other main contributors.

Medium pacer Gursahib (4-0-15-5) was the wrecker-in-chief for Andhra who were dimissed for 97 in 17.3 overs. Only opener Goutham made a defiant knock of 43 in 44 balls and hit six fours.

Haryana defeated Chandigarh by 42 runs. Batting first, Haryana made 186 all out. Opender Pranav nanda made 43 runs. Anurag (23) and Dinesh (27) were the other main batsmen for Haryana.

Chandigarh's Navdeep was the most successful bowler for Chandigarh as he claimed four wickets for 27 runs.
