Windies, Australia fined for slow over rates in Ist Test

Dubai: Australia and West Indies have been fined for slow over-rates during the first Test in Kingston, Jamaica, the International Cricket Council (ICC) said on Monday.

Captains Ricky Ponting and Ramnaresh Sarwan were fined half their match fees and the players 25 per cent of theirs after both teams were ruled to have bowled five overs short of the required amount in the Test which ended on May 26, an ICC statement issued on Monday said.

According to the ICC code of conduct rules, players would be fined five per cent of their match fees for each over the team falls short with the captain fined double that amount.

The visitors won the first Test at Sabina Park by 95 runs to take 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
