London: England one-day captain Paul Collingwood has received a four-match ban following his side's failure to bowl its overs in the required time during Wednesday's one-day international against New Zealand at The Oval, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced Thursday.
The ban starts with Saturday's fifth and final one-day international against New Zealand at Lord's. Colly will also miss a one-day international against Scotland and the Twenty20 game and first one-day international against South Africa.
Kevin Pietersen was named on Thursday to lead England for the first time in a match they must win to square the series.
The Kiwis snatched victory at The Oval on Wednesday through an overthrow off the final ball after a dramatic and eventually acrimonious match when New Zealand all-rounder Grant Elliott was run out after colliding with England bowler Ryan Sidebottom.
Collingwood did not withdrew the appeal which drew criticism from one and all.
Collingwood was fined 50 per cent of his match fee when England fell short of the required over rate in a one-day international against India on Aug. 24 last year.
