Mumbai:The BCCI selection committee on Thursday decided to rest Delhi pacer Ishant Sharma for the one-dayers against Sri Lanka. The lanky fast bowler, however, will be back for the Champions Trophy next month.

Under-19 skipper Virat Kohli got a maiden ODI call. This was made clear by the selectors as they announced the 16-member squad for the ODI series starting August 18, and the Champions Trophy starting September 12.

Robin Uthappa, Yusuf Pathan, Piyush Chawla and Manpreet Gony have been left out of the team while Harbhajan Singh, Sachin Tendulkar and Zaheer Khan are back in the side. Uthappa made way for Kohli after making just one fifty in his last twenty outings.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, who opted out of the Test series citing fatigue, returned to lead the side. Harbhajan has made a comeback after serving a five-ODI ban, imposed on him by the BCCI for slapping teammate Sreesanth during the DLF-IPL. Parthiv Patel has also been included in the squad as an additional wicketkeeper.

Sharma, who played a key role in shaping India's 170-run series-equalling victory in Galle, was replaced by Munaf Patel in keeping with the cricket board's new rotation policy.

"Ishant Sharma has been rested for one-day series," board secretary Niranjan Shah said in a statement.
