India elect to bat in final Sri Lanka Test

India captain Anil Kumble elected to bat after winning the toss against Sri Lanka in the crucial third and final Test here on Friday.

The series is tied at 1-1, with Sri Lanka winning the opening Test by an innings and 239 runs and India clinching a 170-run victory in the second match.

India made one change from the team that played in the second Test as they brought in wicket-keeper Parthiv Patel in place of Dinesh Karthik.

The hosts replaced paceman Nuwan Kulasekara with Dammika Prasad, who is making his Test debut.

India: Anil Kumble (capt), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Venkatsai Laxman, Parthiv Patel, Harbhajan Singh, Ishant Sharma, Zaheer Khan.

Sri Lanka: Mahela Jayawardene (capt), Michael Vandort, Malinda Warnapura, Kumar Sangakkara, Thilan Samaraweera, Tillakaratne Dilshan, Prasanna Jayawardene, Chaminda Vaas, Muttiah Muralitharan, Ajantha Mendis, Dammika Prasad.

Umpires: Rudi Koertzen (RSA) and Mark Benson (ENG)

TV umpire: Billy Doctrove (WIS)

Match referee: Alan Hurst (AUS)
