BCCI keeps promise, gives cash prizes to Oly medalists

BCCI to award Rs 25 lakh to Abhinav Bindra - gold medalist in 10m Air Rifle in Beijing Oly New Delhi: The Working Committee of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) today announced cash awards to the three athletes who did India proud by winning medals in the Beijing Olympics.

The working committee which met here today decided to award Rs 25 lakh to shooter Abhinav Bindra who gave India its first individual gold medal at the Olympics.

Grappler Sushil Kumar and boxer Vijender Kumar who bagged bronze medals will be given Rs 10 lakh each.

The BCCI in its Working Committee meeting also decided to increase the contribution to the National Sports Development Fund (NSDF) to Rs 50 crore from the present Rs 25 crore for the next three years. The NSDF was set up jointly by the BCCI and the Sports Ministry.
