Gilchrist named as Chair of Australia Day Council

Sydney: Former Australia stumper Adam Gilchrist has been appointed the Chair of the National Australia Day Council.

Australian Government Special Minister of State, Senator John Faulkner today announced the appointment, saying: "Gilchrist will bring enormous energy and commitment to the work of the Council and I am delighted that he has agreed to take on this important leadership role for our national day."

Gilchrist is keeping busy in post-international cricket retirement having also recently taken on the role of ambassador for Cricket Australia's (CA) new entry-level program MILO in2CRICKET.

"Adam Gilchrist is acknowledged for his outstanding contribution to Australian cricket. He has demonstrated great drive and leadership throughout his professional career whilst maintaining a high standard of integrity." Senator Faulkner said.

"His passion for Australia and his motivational leadership will be invaluable as the National Australia Day Council continues to build Australia Day and the Australian of the Year Awards in the coming years." Senator Faulkner said.

Senator Faulkner also announced Deputy Chair, Shelley Reys, and board members Dr Bruce Walker, Fergus Ryan and Duncan Lewis have been reappointed. Continuing board members include Ian Elliot and Andrew Metcalfe.
