Samit Patel in England's Stanford squad

Antigua-born Texan billionaire Sir Allen Stanford claims he is doing this (pumping in millions) to revive the fortunes Windies' cricket.London: Geoff Miller-led ECB selection panel sprang a major surprise by including the Nottingham batting all-rounder Samit Patel in the England squad for the upcoming Stanford T20 and seven-match ODI series against India.

Samit, who only made his England debut last month, made it to the England side, thanks to his impressive run with both bat and ball in the recently concluded ODI series against SA.

SA-born Englishman Pietersen will lead the 15-member squad studded with likes of Flintoff, Owais Shah, Collingwood.

As many as four players from Nottinghamshire - Patel, Graeme Swann, Ryan Sidebottom and Stuart Broad - feature in the England squad.

England will take on Stanford all-star side (picked by a selection panel headed by Sir Viv Richards from a pool of Carib) at St Johns Antigua and Barbuda on Nov 1.

The winners will take home a cool $20 million (a million dollar each for players).


England (Stanford T20/ODI): Kevin Pietersen (captain), James Anderson, Ian Bell, Ravi Bopara, Stuart Broad, Paul Collingwood, Alastair Cook, Andrew Flintoff, Stephen Harmison, Samit Patel, Matt Prior, Owais Shah, Graeme Swann, Ryan Sidebottom and Luke Wright.

Stanford All-Star: Gayle, Sarwan, Chanderpaul, Xavier Marshall, Kieron Pollard, Andre Fletcher, Chad Hampson, Rayad Emrit, Dave Mohammad, Lennox Cush, Lindon James, Lionel Baker, Sulieman Benn, Dwayne Bravo, Sylvester Joseph, Darren Powell and Jerome Taylor.
