Chasing a victory target of 378, Delhi who resumed with an overnight score of 113 for three wickets, bundled on 190 runs barely twenty minutes before the lunch myserably failing to withstand brilliant spell of spin bowling by Harbhajan Singh (4/31) and skipper Anil Kumble (3/19).
Delhi opener Gautam Gambhir, who was captaining the side after skipper Virender Sehwag returned to the national capital last night under a mysterious circumstances, virtually fought against the star-sudded ROI single-handedly till the end.
Gambhir was however unluckly to miss his century by nine runs as he was caught behind brilliantly by M S Dhoni off Kumble.
His 91 off 176 balls was the highest individual score in this match and was studded with one dozen boundaries.

This was Rest of India's 21st victory in the Irani cup tournament which commenced in the year 1959-60. In the 44th edition of the tournament last year, Rest routed Bombay by nine wickets at Rajkot to register their second consecutive win.
On the other hand, Delhi who fought a losing battle against Rest in 1992-93, had last won the Trophy way back in 1989-90 under the captainship of Madan Lal.
