Mumbai: Kris Srikkanth, the newly appointed chairman of selection committee has said that beating the Aussies in the forthcoming Test series, and then preparing a good team for the World Cup 2011 which will be played in the sub-continent are the top two things on his agenda right now.

"As of now, I have two goals, the short-term goal is to pick the best possible side for the Australian series and the long-term goal will be to prepare the best team for the 2011 World Cup," Srikkanth told the Times of India.

Former Indian captain  sees no reason why the Indian team cannot beat the Australians in upcoming four-Test series which is scheduled to begin on October 9.. Srikkanth is the chairman of a committee consisting of Surendra Bhave, Narendra Hirwani, Yashpal Sharma and Raja Venkat.

He further added that he was confident that the current Test team is capable of defeating the Australian side. He said, "The current Test team has some proven players who are capable of doing well in any condition. I am confident that they are going to make a difference. We also have a good track record at home and I don"t see any reason why we can"t succeed."

Thus selecting a good team for the on-coming Test series is the first task on the hands of the newly appointed selection committee.
