Ricky Ponting and Anil KumbleBangalore: Australian captain Ricky Ponting won the toss and elected to bat against India in the first Test at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore.

The pitch looks hard and good for batting. It is a well-rolled track with a little bit of grass to assist the seamers in the first two hours. Some cracks are also visible, which will surely open up by the third day and help the spinners.

Both the teams seem to have banked on their bowling strength. While India have gone with two spinners and two pacers, Australia have opted for three pacers and one spinner. Cameron White has got nod ahead of Jason Krejza.

India: Anil Kumble (Captain), Gautam Gambhir, Virender Sehwag, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, VVS Laxman, Mahendra Singh Dhoni (wk), Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma.

Australia: Ricky Ponting (Captain), Matthew Hayden, Simon Katich, Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, Shane Watson, Brad Haddin (wk), Cameron White, Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson, Stuart Clark.
