New Delhi:  Taking a dig at the BCCI, former legend Kapil Dev has stated that the rebel Indian Cricket League (ICL) has achieved in one year what the board could not achieve in 70 years of its existence.

Without mincing words, Kapil categorically poited out the ICL's contribution towards the development of cricket in the country.

''Look what has happened to all the promises of providing infrastructure for players. The ICL has constructed four stadiums while others depend on grounds leased from the Government or run by the state governments,'' the legendary all-rounder told DD-Sports.

The former captain, who led India to its only World Cup triumph in 1983, was very critical of the stand taken by the ICC and the various cricket boards who have banned the ICL players.

''Ultimately competition is good for the game. What is the logic behind stopping the players from earning well when the Boards running the game earn thousands of crores and why should only the players playing in the national side have the sole right to money and fame?'' he asked.

Asked about the impact of T20 on Test cricket, Kapil lashed out at the purists who claim that the shortest version of the game will prove to be detrimental to the traditional format.

''Only that version of the game will survive which is liked by the general masses. When ODIs came on the horizon of World Cricket, the then pundits of the game had declared that this will kill Test cricket. But what has actually happened is that ODIs have made Test cricket more interesting by getting more results in Tests cricket also,'' he opined. ''May be Twenty20 cricket will increase the excitement in ODIs also.'' Kapil also praised former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly for the runs he has amassed in both versions of the game and the character shown by him to build the team when the chips were down.
