Bangladesh win toss and bat in first Test

Bangladesh skipper Mohammad Ashraful won the toss and elected to bat in the first Test against New Zealand at the Divisonal Stadium here on Friday.

The home team has included three left-arm spinners, Abdur Razzak, Mehrab Hossain and Shakib Al Hasan in their lineup along with off-spinning all-rounder Naeem Islam as the pitch is likely to take spin.

The 21-year-old Islam is making his Test debut.

New Zealand has also handed batsman Jesse Ryder his Test debut and included off-spinner Jeetan Patel to backup skipper and spinner Daniel Vettori. They also have three seamers in Kyle Mills, Jacob Oram and Iain O'Brien.

The visitors won the preceding three-match one-day series 2-1.
