Mohali: Goutam Gambir scored a brilliant half-century to take Indian score to 104 runs for the loss of a wicket at lunch. Gambir and Rahul Dravid were on the crease at the time of lunch.

Virender Sehwag (35 off 36 balls) was the first Indian batsman to be dismissed in the second Test, when he edged a Mitchell Johnson delivery to wicketkeeper Brad Haddin.

Sehwag and Gambhir started off on a positive note and created problems for the Australian pacers, piling up swift runs early on in the innings. The combo took the Indian total past the 50 run-mark amidst a flurry of cracking shots that saw Australian captain Ricky Ponting in a dilemma over the field placements.

Earlier Mahendra Singh Dhoni walked out to join Australian captain Ricky Ponting at the toss, after regular captain Anil Kumble was ruled out today morning, after he failed to recover from a shoulder injury he picked up during the course of the first Test at Bangalore.

Amit Mishra, the leg-break bowler from Haryana was given a chance in the squad in Kumble"s absence. The spinner finally makes his debut in the Test arena.

For the Australian side, there was one change as well, Stuart Clark made way for Peter Siddle as the former had a nagging injury in the form of an inflamed elbow.
