Mohali: Sachin Tendulkar became the highest run scorer in World history on Friday, erasing Brian Lara's existing record of 11, 953 runs.

On the other hand, Sourav Ganguly notched up his 35th Test fifty, cracking another record in the process as he became the fourth Indian batsman to score above 7000 runs in the arena of Test cricket while Sachin Tendulkar slammed his 50th Test fifty, his 10th against Australia.

India overcame the middle order hiccup to cruise past the 250 run-mark in the post tea session against Australia, courtesy Tendulkar and Ganguly"s pyrotechnics.
The effort also marked the Little Master"s crossing of the 12,000 run-mark in Tests.

Earlier, Mitchell Johnson sounded the warning gong for the home team by claiming the wickets of the well set batsman, Gautam Gambhir and the new man on the crease, VVS Laxman. The former departed after a fine knock of 67 runs while the latter succumbed at 12 runs. With three wickets gone in quick time, India were on the back foot with 174 runs for the loss of four wickets at tea.
