Kumble out, India bat first against Australia

India won the toss and elected to bat in the second Test against Australia at the Punjab Cricket Association stadium here on Friday.

Indian captain Anil Kumble, nursing a shoulder injury, ruled himself out of the game, leaving the skipper's job to Mahendra Dhoni, who will be leading the side in a Test for only the second time.

Leg-spinner Amit Mishra, 25, was set for a Test debut after having played in three one-day internationals for India.

Australia replaced injured fast bowler Stuart Clark with 23-year-old debutant Peter Siddle.

The first Test in Bangalore had ended in a draw.

Australia: Ricky Ponting (capt), Matthew Hayden, Simon Katich, Michael Hussey, Michael Clarke, Shane Watson, Brad Haddin, Cameron White, Brett Lee, Mitchell Johnson, Peter Siddle. 12th man: Jason Krejza.

India: Mahendra Dhoni (capt), Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Rahul Dravid, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Venkatsai Laxman, Harbhajan Singh, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma, Amit Mishra. 12th man: Subramaniam Badrinath.

Umpires: Rudi Koertzen (RSA) and Asad Rauf (PAK)

Third umpire: Amish Saheba (IND)

Match referee: Chris Broad (ENG)
