DHAKA :
Bangladesh captain Mohammad Ashraful elected to field after winning the toss against New Zealand in the rain-hit second Test at the Sher-e-Bangla Stadium here on Tuesday.

No play was possible on the first three days due to rain and bad weather. However there was no overnight rain and sun came out blazing on Tuesday, allowing the ground staff to make the stadium ready for play.

The loss of the first three days left the home team with no realistic hope of squaring the two-Test series, which New Zealand lead 1-0. The visitors won the first Test at Chittagong by three wickets.

Bangladesh handed a Test debut to paceman Mahbubul Alam, who replaced Naeem Islam in the team that lost the first Test.

New Zealand was forced to make one change in their first Test line-up, bringing in Grant Elliott in place of all-rounder Jacob Oram who had to return home because of a back problem.
