New Delhi: Former New Zealand cricketer Chris Cairns has been suspended by his Indian Cricket League (ICL) Twenty20 team.

An ICL release said its executive board had suspended Cairns, skipper of the Chandigargh Lions, and teammate Dinesh Mongia on disciplinary grounds. According to reports, the former New Zealand international cricketer arrived for the current Twenty20 tournament carrying the injury but failed to disclose his fitness status. That violates his contract which states a player needs to be fit when appearing.

Carins fellow team-mate, Dinesh Mongia was also axed from the team on disciplinary grounds, reportedly because he knew of Cairns injury but did not share the information.

South African all-rounder Andrew Hall would replace Cairns as captain of the Chandigargh Lions.
