''It is always great when India beats Australia and I think it was great to see the team perform as a unit,'' Srikkanth said.
''The seniors were very consistent and yes, it also indicates that the team is adapting well to the transition phase,'' Srikkanth told CNN IBN.
He said ''it was a tremendous team effort where the openers gave solid starts, while the middle order also came good and then the bowlers performed exceptionally well.'' The former Indian opener further added that the players need to be protected so that the team does go into the 2011 World Cup with a winning combination.
''These players need to be protected in order to maintain a winning combination in the 2011 World Cup. I think the team is playing really well at the moment and it is important to maintain a positive approach in order to keep winning in all forms of the game,'' he added.
He also singled out Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his leadership skills and said he would carry the mantle of captaincy in a remarkable manner.
''His (Dhoni) captaincy has been phenomenal. He reads the game very well and has been handling the job exceptionally,'' he said.
Dhoni has led India in three Tests so far and the team has won in all the three matches.
