Symonds and several of his team-mates were drinking with members of the Australian rugby league team after Australia's victory over New Zealand in the first Test at the Gabba when the incident took place.
Cricket Australia on Monday confirmed that they are investigating an incident.
"I'm told he was back at the team hotel by around 9.30 or 10pm," CA's public affairs manager Phillip Pope told ABC News.
"It's going to be a process of just finding out a little more detail.
"I'm sure as the week moves on, we'll be able to understand the events a little clearer.
Symonds, though, says he didn't do anything wrong and also dismissed reports that he is being treated for alcohol addiction.
After 'fishing' Symonds goes to bar
"It has been reported that last night I was involved in a pub fight and I would just like to take the opportunity to clarify this report," the all-rounder is quoted by The Age.
"A member of the public acted unreasonably towards me while I was with friends at which time I took steps to remove myself from the situation.
"The member of the public was subsequently removed from the premises as a result of his actions.
"I was sharing some drinks with other players and close friends and did not in anyway provoke this situation.
"I would also like to take the opportunity to clarify reports last week that I am being treated for alcohol addiction. I am being treated for a stress related illness and I remain committed to dealing with these issues."
