Pietersen

Cuttack: Kevin Pietersen finally struck form with an unbeaten 111 as England scored 270 for four against India in the fifth ODI at Barabati stadium here today.

Pietersen's 111 came off 128 balls and together with Owais Shah (66), he put on an unbroken 112-run partnership for the fifth wicket to take the visitors to a competetive total.

For India, Zaheer Khan was the most successful bowler as he grabbed two wickets to send England openers Alaister Cook (11) and Ravi Bopara (24) back into the pavilion within first 10 overs of the match.

Bopara, who has been in a fine nick, could not pose much problem to the Indian side and when his full blooded shot was well taken by Yuvraj Singh off Zaheer with the England total at 68.

However, Pietersen stood tall and played selective shots to score his seventh century in ODIs even as the spinners Harbhajan Singh and Yuvraj Singh looked threatening with their bowling.

The English captain was involved in two useful partnerships, first he added 89 runs for the third wicket with Paul Collingwood (44) and then with Shah who looked as dominating as he was in the last match at Bangalore.
