Miandad told Geo News that it was a great honour for him, and added that he would provide every possible help to promote cricket in China.
The decision to send Miandad, who played 124 Tests and 233 ODIs between 1975 and 1996, to China, was taken at a meeting which was chaired by the President of Pakistan Asif Ali Zardari.
“We need to support China in the development of Cricket. We can send a Cricket Ambassador to China," the President was quoted as saying.
China is currently an affiliate member of the International Cricket Council, and apart from the ICC's focus on spreading the game of cricket in China, even the Asian Cricket Council is working on the development of cricket in China as a 'Special Project'.
