Hayden to retire after Sydney Test

Sydney: Matthew Hayden, who has come into scrutiny after his latest failure at the top of the order, may retire from international cricket after the third Test here against South Africa.

According to 'The Sydney Morning Herald', sources closes to the 37-year-old opener said, ''Hayden was contemplating whether to proceed with his original plan and play through next year's Ashes series or retire from Test cricket at the end of the summer.'' The report said Hayden yesterday spent most of his time in discussions with skipper Ricky Ponting.

''Teammates have, however, suggested Hayden could make a definitive call before the Boxing Day Test,'' the report added.
