Pune: Having humbled the might of the Aussies and outplayed England on their home soil, India stands in an enviable position and will soon be ranked number one in the International Cricket Council (ICC) ranking, opined prolific opener Virender Sehwag.
Speaking to mediapersons today, after giving away prizes at the Deccan Gymkhana here for the IT Twenty20 final match, the flamboyant opener minced no words and said the Aussies have lost their charm after the retirement of ace pacer Glen Macgrath and spin wizard leggie Shane Warne.
While the Aussies are struggling to be the world beaters, India stands at the number two in the ICC ranking with their victory march continuing.
Sehwag also lauded Team India skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni for his effective leadership skills, which have led them to victory after victory.
''We have a very balanced batting as well as bowling side, with an effective mixture of young and experienced players. While on one hand we have Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma, we have stalwarts like Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid on the other, who are enough to give nightmares to the rivals,'' he said.
When asked about the popularity of the Twenty20 cricket, he said that the shortest version of the game has caught the imagination of the audience and attracted them. ''The Test cricket enjoys its own position and brings out the best in the players,'' Sehwag added.
