Lankan team attacked in Lahore

Lahore: Unidentified gun men attacked visiting Sri Lankan Cricket team near Gadaffi stadium in Lahore. Lankan team where travelling to Gadaffi stadium for the playing second Test.

Five Lankan team members were reported injured in the attack. Injured players were taken to the hospital. Players include Sri Lankan captain Jayawardene, batsman Samaraveera, Sangakkara and Ajanta Mendis.

According to 'Geo' tv repors Lankan batsman Samaraveera received minor wounds in chest. He is undergoing an operation in the hospital.  Lankan captain Jayawardene is injured in the ankle.

Bus in which the team travelled were completely destroyed in the attack. 4 police men were killed in the encounter. The attackers came in a white car and exploded two bombs.

The attackers  also targeted  police van which was providing security to the Lankan team. The incident happened at Liberty Chowk in Lahore.

Mean while Test series has been cancelled and Lankan Team members were asked to return to Lanka.

According to latest reports, It is known that a helicopter has been provided for Sri Lankan team to flay back to their home land.

Pakistan only invited the Sri Lanka team to tour after India's team pulled out with security concerns following the militant attacks on the Indian city of Mumbai in November.
