Vettori bemoans placid pitch

Napier: Daniel Vettori claimed the McLean Park pitch was 'too good' for his New Zealand side to get a positive result, after their draw with India.

The Black Caps took full advantage of the generous batting conditions as they piled on 619-9 in their first innings, before skittling out the Indians for 305.

Conditions in Napier did not look so good as India were forced to follow on, but their powerhouse batting line-up steadied themselves second time around to force a draw.

Gautam Gambhir and VVS Laxman both hit centuries as India made 476-4 when New Zealand conceded the draw with an hour of the fifth day remaining.

Vettori was a frustrated figure after the game, as he was desperate to level the series at 1-1 before the final Test in Wellington.
