Cape Town: Tendulkar's brilliant fifty helped Mumbai Indians to score 166 for the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs against Chennai Super Kings in the inaugural match of the IPL's second season.Tendulkar hit 7 fours in his knock that came off 49 deliveries.
However the highlight of the innings was a brief cameo by Abhishek Nayar. The youngster smashed 35 off 19 balls.
Mumbai Indian openers Tendulkar and Jayasuriya gave a solid start to Mumbai Indians as they scored 39 runs in 6 overs. Sri Lankan veteran Sanath Jayasuriya became the first man to be dismissed in the IPL 2 as he flicked a Tushara ball straight to short mid-wicket. Jayasuriya made 26 off just 20 balls.
Hayden, who earlier dropped Tendulkat at slip, made no mistake this time as he latched on to a low catch.
However Mumbai Indians middle order failed to capitalise on the solid start as they lost wickets at regular intervals.
Earlier, the first match of IPL2 began after Chennai Super Kings captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni won the toss and elected to bowl first in overcast conditions and on a wicket that had spongy bounce.
