Kolkata Knight Riders were declared winners after a futile wait of 45 minutes for the rain to stop.

Chris Gayles's 26-ball 44 included four sixes and two fours.

Earlier riding on efficient performances by Irfan Pathan (32) and Yuvraj Singh (38), Kings XI Punjab managed to score 158/6.

It was Kolkata's Dada who who came to the rescue and spoiled Mohali's party. He scalped Pathan (32) and Bopara (15) in single over to leave the opposition gasping. Yuvraj then partnered Sangakkara and was naturally expected of a blistering knock.

It was Jayawardene's fireworks in the final overs that helped Kings XI Punjab to score 158/6.

Chris Gayle was declared man of the match.
