Gilchrist got them off to the best possible start as Deccan brought up their fifty in the fourth over. Things slowed down once the spinners came on but Gibbs batted sensibly through the middle overs before cutting loose once the medium pacers returned.
Gilchrist blasted 49 from just 19 balls including five fours and three sixes. Gibbs scored 67 of 59 balls that inluded 7 boundaries and two sixes.
Earlier, Deccan did a good job in restricting the Chennai to 165 for six, keeping the run rate under nine even as Matthew Hayden made 49 off 35 balls and Jacob Oram added an unbeaten 41 off 29 balls.
Ohja was the pick of the Chargers bowlers with 2 wickets.
Herchelle Gibbs was declared man of the match.
"We are very glad with our show so far. It's good to cross the line in tight games, we passed another test. The crowd has been fantastic and it sometimes becomes tough to know who they are supporting. I think we did well to restrict them, they looked like getting away with a bigger score. I am proud about our batting display so far." said the winning captain Gilchrist.
